48thAnnual Scientific Congress
I am delighted to invite you to attend the annual scientific congress for 2015 of Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists from 21st to 23rd August.
Theme of the congress is "Empowering rightful needs of women’s health through education, best practices & clinical governance". Empowering literally means giving authority or developing self-confidence. It is a creation of an environment in which women can make independent decisions in their personal development so that they would have equal rights in the society. Meaning of rightful is an indication that women’s health is a human right. Best practice means practice of evidence based medicine. Clinical governance is moving away from proxy or process, to measured outcomes through accountability.
Women’s health is an unfinished agenda in the world specially so in the south-east Asian region. Women are a major dynamic force which contributes to the economy of all nations. A nation that invest in women’s employment, health and education are more likely to have better outcome, their children will be healthier and better educated. Therefore health of a nation is determined by the health of its girl child and woman. Understanding of the merits of a life-course approach to women’s health through every stage of her life is pivotal to organize a care programme addressing women’s health issues.
Our faculty will include leading figures from UK, India, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and local speakers. The scientific programme will include pre-congress workshops, plenary lectures, symposia, and free papers.
This will give you the opportunity to make new friendships and to renew old friendships. To my foreign friends, it will enable you to enjoy the sunshine, lovely beaches and the hill country.
I look forward to welcome you in Sri Lanka.
With best wishes,
Dr. Kanishka Karunaratne
